Luke 5
1One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God, 2he saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
4When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
5Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
6When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
Verse 4 mentions that Jesus asked Simon to “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
One of the things I love about the bible is that you can read about the bible every now and then, cover to cover that no matter how many times you read it, something new will be spoken to you.
There where a lot of times I have come across verses in the bible that has spoken to me over and over again. Some serve as a reminder but some serve as a new revelation which can be obtained when we really dig into Gods word, inspired by the Holy Spirit.
“Put out into deep water” to me would mean that there is a Direction. A Direction which is to go deep. To go Deep means, Extending far downward below a surface. There is one direction and that means to get DOWN to business.
Ever watch those cop and robber movies? The cops need to go deeper in the evidence they obtain everytime because the more they dig in, the more closer they get to an answer.
It’s the same when it comes to the word of God. We don’t only find an answer in times of doubts or questions…. in dead ends we find LIFE.
Secondly, “and let down the nets for a catch“. What is it you need to let down in order to catch that revelation from God?
Its your heart, mind, soul and strength.
I use to wonder why is strength mentioned? Heart, mind and soul I can understand but strength? I think strength is mentioned because our hearts, mind and soul are distracted on the wrong things that our strength is much needed.
God wants to share to us treasures in heaven and if were going to get a catch, we need our all involved. We need to keep our focus and attention to whats important.
Simon went to the waters to catch fish. We read the word of God not to just read but to hear God speak for in our daily lives… that is the CATCH of the DAY!
